Tasneem Elsabaa, De Montfort University

Meet Tasneem, she is 26 years old and recently graduated with a Master’s degree in Interior Design from De Montfort University in the UK.

Tasneem described her study abroad experience as a “character development adventure” which helped her get closer to her dreams.

We asked Tasneem about the advantages of getting an international experience. She recalls feeling “awesome” about getting outside of her comfort zone and meeting new people from all over the world. Also learning in a mix of cultures helped her stay open-minded and respectful to everyone.

About career opportunities and employment, Tasneem is currently job hunting. She thinks that DMU has a great career guidance team who help offer advice, yet at the end of the day it’s up to you to do the necessary research and depend on yourself to land the right job.

Tasneem went on to talk about the life changing experience this journey turned out to be. You have to define and be clear about your goals before making such a decision. For her, studying abroad was not only about academics but also “exploring yourself” and other cultures. “Going the extra mile for your passion is key, and living in a new country can be challenging, but it’s a life changing experience.” We need to keep an open mind, and although nothing comes easily, eventually we will adapt to anything.
